Located in the cozy and scenic Pacific Northwest and just a short drive outside of Seattle, Woodinville, Washington is home to over 130 wineries. Delicious wine, passionate winemakers, varied food options, and fun events make this region one not to miss.
With so many great options, Woodinville may seem like a daunting region to wine taste.
So, let’s start at the top. Woodinville Wine Country is divided into four districts: Warehouse District, Downtown District, Hollywood District, and West Valley District. We are going to take a look at the northernmost region, the Warehouse District.

Winemaker Lance Baer founded Baer Winery in 2000 with a single passion – to bring something unique to Woodinville. Starting at just 200 cases, Baer Winery now produces over 3,000 cases each year and is still growing. Today the Baer family continues Lance’s legacy, offering their original signature blend, Ursa, predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Franc, as well as continuing to evolve and add new blends to the winery’s line-up.
“Owned and operated by the Wells family, Love That Red Winery is a small and exclusive winery that prides itself on discovering and showcasing the best in Washington State red wine varietals. Winemaking style is focused on blending complexity, utilizing a variety of vineyard sites to create intrigue and uniqueness in the glass. Their brand is a marriage of two passions that combine the love of world-class red wines with the sport of kings horseracing.

Warr-King Wines was founded in 2013 by Winemaker Lisa Warr-King Packer with the focus of producing elegant old-world style wines that highlight Washington state’s distinctive terroir. Warr-King takes a minimalist approach to winemaking and believes in honoring the fruit as it was grown. Warr-King offers a limited production of single vineyard, single varietal wines and unique blends that showcase the exquisiteness of Washington wine.

Winemaker and owner, John Patterson, creates approachable, new world style wines. He considers the craft of winemaking to be, “a unique puzzle as you approach harvest to produce wines that are consistent from year to year,” which speaks to the quality and caliber of the wines from Patterson Cellars. Each of the five tasting rooms offers a unique wine tasting experience.

Shane Howard, winemaker at Pondera Winery, creates wine with one goal in mind; to make the very best wine possible – concentrated wines that are well-balanced and distinct. Pondera takes pride in being part of the Washington wine community and is excited by the potential for Washington State wine. While offerings include many options, Pondera’s primary focus will always be on making blends with the Bordeaux varietals and to be surrounded by good people, good food and great wine.

When Doug and Betsy Long relocated from Napa in an attempt to retire from winemaking, they immediately recognized how special Red Mountain is, and the area’s potential for winemaking. Since their first vintage in 2007, Obelisco has been producing award-winning Washington wine. “No effort and no expense is too much in growing fine grapes… grapes are 95% of the quality of wine.”

Every fall, at their home on the Yakima River, the entire Bunnell Family is stricken with a serious case of purple palms. Harvest means handmade is the rule of the day – and even the kids take part in the fun! Together they are happy to craft way too many small lots of award-winning wine for their three labels and joint venture with Newhouse Family Vineyards and Wine O’Clock.
“Owners and wine enthusiasts Derek and Scott primarily focus on Super-Tuscan-style wines made from Sangiovese along with varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot from the very best vineyards in Washington state located in regions such as Wahluke Slope and Red Mountain.”

Kestrel Vintners opened it’s doors in early 1999 as a 3,000 case winery. Today Kestrel offers 35,000 cases annually. One taste reveals masterfully tended vineyards, innovative winemaking techniques and unrivaled hospitality. Kestrel innovatively crafts wines of the highest caliber, showcasing the unique terroir of the Pacific Northwest. Through passion, knowledge and stewardship they give customers, community and the world a little piece of the good life.
Michael Florentino Cellars explores the flavors, nuances and history of Italian and Spanish wine. They are a Washington winery based in Woodinville and welcome everyone to try their wines in the tasting room and see how it’s all done in the production facility.
